2nd Chapter Moments - be kinder to your body

27

Sep

At some point, many women reach a stage of life where their relationship with their body begins to change.

Perhaps the clothes fit differently. Perhaps your energy isn't quite what it used to be. Maybe your body has changed through motherhood, menopause, stress, illness, life changes or simply the passing of time.

And sometimes, we can find ourselves looking at our bodies through a very critical lens.

I should lose weight.

I don't like how I look anymore.

I used to be so much fitter.

Why can't my body be like it used to be?

But what if there were another way to think about your body in this next chapter?

What if your body doesn't need fixing?

For years, women have been surrounded by messages telling us that our bodies need to be smaller, younger, fitter or somehow "better."

But your body isn't a project that has failed because it has changed.

Your body has lived.

It has carried you through different chapters of your life. It has adapted, healed, worked, rested, celebrated, struggled and kept going.

Perhaps it's time to acknowledge that.

Being kinder to your body doesn't mean you have to love everything about it.

It simply means choosing to treat yourself with the same compassion you would offer someone you care about.

Move from criticism to curiosity

Instead of looking at your body and immediately finding something you don't like, try becoming curious about what it is telling you.

Are you tired?

Do you need to slow down?

Have you been sitting too long?

Could you use some fresh air?

Are you hungry?

Do you need rest rather than another coffee?

Your body is constantly communicating with you.

Learning to listen can be a powerful part of your next chapter.

It's not about giving up on your health

Being kinder to your body doesn't mean ignoring your health or abandoning healthy habits.

It's about changing the motivation behind them.

You can move because you enjoy feeling stronger.

You can choose nourishing food because you want to feel good.

You can prioritise sleep because you recognise how important rest is.

You can make time for yourself because your wellbeing matters.

The difference is that you're no longer doing these things because you believe your body isn't good enough.

You're doing them because your body is worth caring for.

A little kindness can change the conversation

Try noticing how you speak to yourself this week.

Would you speak to a friend the way you sometimes speak to yourself?

If the answer is no, perhaps it's time to change the conversation.

Instead of:

"I look terrible today."

Try:

"I'm having a day where I don't feel particularly confident."

Instead of:

"My body isn't what it used to be."

Try:

"My body has changed, and I'm learning to appreciate where I am now."

Instead of:

"I need to get myself back into shape."

Try:

"What would help me feel healthier and stronger?"

Small changes in the language we use can create a surprisingly different relationship with ourselves.

Your body deserves to be part of your next chapter

Your 50s, 60s and beyond aren't simply a period of life to spend trying to look like a younger version of yourself.

They're an opportunity to discover who you are now.

What you enjoy.

What gives you energy.

What makes you feel good.

What you want more of.

And how you want to care for yourself as you move forward.

Your body gets to come with you.

So rather than constantly asking, "How can I change my body?", perhaps the better question is:

"How can I take better care of the body I have today?"

That shift can be incredibly freeing.

Take the 10-Day Challenge

You don't need to make a dramatic change.

Start with one small act of kindness.

Take a walk.

Drink some water.

Get an early night.

Stretch.

Wear something you feel comfortable in.

Stop criticising yourself when you look in the mirror.

Or simply place your hand on your heart and say:

"Thank you for getting me this far."

Then keep going.

The 10-Day Be Kinder to Your Body Challenge is designed to help you build small moments of kindness and awareness into your everyday life.

👉 Take the challenge:

Because your next chapter isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about learning to appreciate, care for and enjoy the woman you are today.

Your Monday moment

This week, notice one thing your body does for you that you usually take for granted.

And instead of criticising it…

Say thank you.

That's your moment.
